Academic & Career Planning (ACP) Day | September 25th

High School students took part in Academic and Career Planning (ACP) Day on Monday, September 26th.  Each grade level participated in activities designed to help them explore their future options. Freshmen volunteered doing some clean-up work at Memorial Park and explored course pathways at AHS in the morning.  They then traveled to Winona to visit MN SE Technical College.  Sophomores spent the day touring the Western Technical College in LaCrosse. Juniors attended the Wisconsin Education Fair and toured UWEC while Seniors toured Viterbo University.

Purpose: To provide campus experiences to students for potential post-high school considerations

9th Grade - Volunteered at Memorial Park with a beautification project in the morning, followed by a presentation by Tami Bagstad (Academic, College, & Career Advisor) in the auditorium with all that AHS offers for their current and future lives. After lunch, students and advisors traveled to MN SE Tech for a campus tour. 

Some comments from the students about this experience:

  • "The presentation in the auditorium had some great information." 
  • "There are many classes I can choose from to have the future I want."
  • "Arcadia offers more classes than I thought."
  • "There are many jobs and opportunities out there."
  • "There are many different college classes you can take, and many options."
  • "I learned about the opportunities you can have by going to a technical school."

Favorite part of the day for students: Volunteering in the park, MN SE Tech tour, Presentation in the auditorium, and time to explore the presentation & the TVC 2.0 website in advisory.

10th Grade - Students and advisors toured the Western Technical College campus in La Crosse all day - there were three main rotations: Main Campus, Health/Science Center, and the Apprenticeship Center. When they arrived back to AHS, they had a presentation in the auditorium about all that AHS offers for their current and future lives. 

Some student comments about their experience:

  • "Arcadia has a lot of opportunities."
  • "You can attend other schools for classes (TVC)."
  • "There are many choices of jobs from the 16 career clusters."
  • "There are some great opportunities with the Youth Apprenticeship Program."
  • "You can be an apprentice & take classes while also making money at Western."
  • "Western offers a variety of opportunities."

11th Grade - Students and advisors toured the Viterbo campus in the morning, ate lunch there, then attended the Wisconsin Education Fair (WEF) at the La Crosse Center.

  • "Viterbo is a very welcoming college."
  • "I enjoyed learning about the history of Viterbo."
  • "I learned how to schedule a college visit at the WEF."
  • "I learned about childcare."
  • "I learned that cosmetology has different year programs."
  • "I learned that there are many options for colleges and careers so keep an open mind."
  • "I learned about apprenticeships and scholarships."

Favorite part of the day for students: Viterbo tours, Wisconsin Education Fair

12th Grade - Students and advisors toured the UW-Eau Claire campus for the day. They experienced an Admissions presentation, a TRIO Student Support Services presentation, Multicultural Student Services presentation, and were then able to ask a Student Panel questions. They then took a full campus tour.
