Middle School Raider Market

Middle School Raider Market

The Raider Market has been having a very successful year so far! The Raider Market is a food pantry at the Arcadia Middle School that gives students regular access to food supplies. The Market has a shopping format where students are able to make their own choices about which items will best serve their family’s needs. Since the Raider Market started at the end of March 2023, the Market has distributed over 4200 pounds of food. On average this school year we are serving 45 students a week.

Our market is supported by Feed My People, an organization dedicated to providing food support so that no one goes hungry. The food we receive twice a month is a mix of donated food and purchased food. Donated food comes from a variety of sources such as retailers, suppliers and individual donors. These items have ranged from cereal, pickles and beans to wasabi sauce, gummy worms and bread. Purchased items are bought using funding from Feed My People and these items supplement donated items. These items include masa, pancake mix, cereal, as well as certain canned fruits and vegetables. Feed My People has generously secured $500 a month in funding to help ensure we meet our students’ needs.

We are proud that news of our Raider Market has been shared in various ways this year. This fall, Feed My People shared a Raider Market video in their newsletter that is shared with their 14-county service area. Additionally, at the beginning of November, Sara Rodriguez, Wisconsin’s Lieutenant Governor, visited our middle school and stopped at the Raider Market to learn more about how we were working to meet the needs of our students. At the end of November, a local new station reached out asking to do a live interview! We are always grateful for the opportunity to highlight the Raider Market!
