Hello! My name is Jordan Puegner, and I am in my second year as an English Language Arts educator. In 2022, I had the privilege of interning with the high school; thus, when a position opened up in the ELA department, I readily accepted the opportunity to continue my career with our outstanding school.
Currently, freshmen students are developing analytical and argumentative skills while reading the classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Freshmen recently completed a readers' theater performance of key scenes which enhanced engagement with the text and fostered collaborative skills; during this activity, students performed phenomenally and truly brought the characters to life.
Meanwhile, sophomores wrote annotated bibliographies and conducted informative presentations on self-chosen topics. This experience has strengthened their presentation skills and ability to express complex ideas clearly.
In the "Science Fiction" elective offered to juniors and seniors, students are identifying genre elements while refining their argumentative and literary analysis skills. After reading classic science fiction stories by authors like Isaac Asimov and Ray Bradbury, they are now closely analyzing Ted Chiang’s "Story of Your Life" and its film adaptation Arrival. This work promotes critical thinking, creativity, and media literacy, preparing students to engage thoughtfully with various media forms.
