SkillsUSA Students Compete Locally

SkillsUSA Students Compete Locally

SkillsUSA consists of students that have a desire to improve on a specific skill or trade. They focus on resume building, enhancing their resumes and improving skills in a desired area such as small engine repair, welding, nursing, culinary, robotics, CADD, prepared speech and problem solving.

Arcadia High School SkillsUSA chapter recently competed in the District 6 Competition in Galesville. Three students took 1st place in their category, two with 2nd place and two in 3rd place. These seven students will be moving onto Regionals in Appleton. Along with these students, twelve other SkillsUSA chapter members will also be competing in the areas of welding, robotics, engineering challenge, CADD, Job interview and Co2 Dragster.

Each student must submit a resume and complete the desired task. The judges will review, discuss and provide feedback on their resume and what they could do to improve in their skilled areas. The feedback provided by the judges allows students to learn from experts in their chosen industry and sometimes career opportunities spark from these relationships.

In April, qualified students will attend the state competition to showcase their abilities and compete against students from all SkillsUSA chapters in Wisconsin. If a student places at this competition they will have a chance to compete nationally this summer. Thank you to the School District of Arcadia staff for helping prepare students for competitions as well as local businesses that have provided training to students. Thank you to Ashley Furniture Industries for grants that have allowed students access to equipment and materials needed for them to learn.
