Transportation

Our students use a variety of means of transportation to get to and from school. To help make your child's transportation a positive experience for all, please observe the following guidelines:

The back of the Elementary School is for teachers and bus loading and unloading ONLY. Parent pickup is on East River Street.
The east (Fairfield Avenue) side of the Middle School and High School are for teachers and buses only. Parent pickup is on the west side (Memorial Park).
If your child is walking or riding their bike to or from school, please make sure they cross by the crossing guard at the corner of Main Street and St. Joseph's Avenue.
Have your child or children at the bus stop early. The driver cannot wait--- they have a schedule to keep and every family needs to cooperate.
We recommend that your child or children go to the same drop off everyday. Less confusion for the child, teachers, secretaries, and bus drivers.
ALL eligible students need to register to ride the bus.

Any changes to your child's after school transportation must be called in before 1:30 p.m. No non-emergency transportation changes will be made after 1:30 p.m. deadline.

Bus Tag Policy

The School District of Arcadia shall implement the following transportation policy:

All students will be required to have on their possession a bus tag in order to ride the school district route buses to and from home or daycare. Exemption-field trips, sports, activity bus -Coach’s or teachers will have rosters of those students with them on their trips. Students that do not have a bus tag can’t ride the bus.
All students with an issued bus tag will show the driver their tag while boarding their bus.
All students who have lost their bus tag must report to the office in the school they attend and let the administrative assistant know they lost their tag immediately upon losing it. The administrative assistant will e-mail the transportation department designee the name of the student who lost their tag. The transportation department designee will make a new tag and drop off at the school office which the student attends.
The transportation department designee will issue the first tag free of charge to all students riding the bus. The second and proceeding tags will cost $4 each.
Students will not destroy, deface, alter or put any stickers on the tag or tag holder.
Students who normally do not ride a bus or those that need to ride a different bus must get a transportation note from the transportation department designee. The student must present this note to the bus driver while boarding the bus.
Students shall turn in all tag holders, lanyards, or issued transportation plastic card at the end of the school year or summer school session.

Penalties:

First Violation-The student not having a tag or failure to show the bus driver their tag will receive a verbal warning from the bus driver to go get a tag from the transportation department designee.
Second Violation-The student is verbally warned to get a bus tag by the bus driver and student is written up on eduCLIMBER
Third Violation-The student is again verbally warned by the bus driver to get a tag and the student is written up in eduCLIMBER and the student is given one to three school days off the bus.
Fourth Violation- The student is again verbally warned by the bus driver to get a tag and the student is written up in eduCLIMBER and the student is off the bus for up to 10 school days.
Fifth Violation- The student is again verbally warned by the bus driver to get a tag and the student is written up in eduCLIMBER and the student is off the bus for the rest of the semester.

Bus drivers are required to check student bus tags and/or transportation notes on their morning and afternoon routes each day. Drivers will write the names down of those students that do not have bus tags and give it to the director of transportation or transportation department designee.

Bus Behavior Expectations

Bus basics provides safety for everyone. Riding the bus as a privilege, not a right. Student violating basics may be prevented from riding the bus for a period of time.

Be Safe

Sit on seat
Keep head, hands and feet inside the bus.
Remain in seat until bus arrives at destination.
Eating and drinking is not allowed. (unless for medical reasons).

Be Responsible

Arrive at bus stop 5 minutes before the bus arrives.
Take seat quickly and orderly.
Keep aisles and emergency exit clear.

Be Respectful

Voices level 2 (proper language).
Leave other students and property alone.
All students will be assigned seats on the bus and must sit in them.

Be a Raider

Greet and thank the bus driver.
Keep back 4 seats empty unless the bus is full.

Elementary Plan

The purpose of this plan is to identify hazardous areas in our community and to receive the necessary compensation from the state for providing transportation of these students to our schools.

Hazardous zone areas identified in the following locations:

West side area-Will transport students on ST RD 95 from Buffalo County line to Third St.(CTY A)and then on Third St.(200 block) to triangle on CTY A and Rainey Valley Rd. This would include Barnes St., Sky View Ct., W. Boberg Lane and Countryside Estates trailer court. This also includes the area west of the railroad tracks.

In this area the unusual hazards that exist are the following:

Limited or no sidewalks by local government
No crossing guards
Lack of law enforcement by local government
Lack of snow removal by local government
Railroad tracks.

South side area-Will transport students at CTY J (south) from Reit Rd. to Meyers Valley Rd. then to Weaver Lane. This also includes Parkview Ln., and Middle Rd.

ST RD 93 from ST RD 95 to Blaschko Ave., then every street to the east of ST RD 93. This includes Blaschko Ave., Clydesdale Ave., Carriage Ln., Saddle Dr., and Truman Way.

In this area the unusual hazards that exist are the following:

Limited or no sidewalks by local government
No crossing guards
Lack of law enforcement by local government
No shoulder or narrow ones on parts of all roadways
Lack of snow removal by local government
Hwy 93 is very heavily traveled

North side area-Will transport students on ST RD 93 north of ST RD 95 to Riverland Energy Coop.

In this area the unusual hazards that exist are the following:

Limited or no sidewalks by local government
No crossing guards
Lack of law enforcement by local government
Heavily traveled state highway
Main intersection in the city
Carries most commuter traffic
Lack of snow removal by local government

East side area-Will transport students on ST RD 95 and all areas south and west of ST RD 93.

In this area the unusual hazards that exist are the following:

Carries most commuter traffic on STH 93
Lack of law enforcement by local government
Limited or no sidewalks by local government
No crossing guards
Many vehicles coming and going from convenient store at this location
Lack of snow removal by local government

This newly revised elementary plan along with the revised middle school/high school plan will replace the other plans previously submitted and or approved by DPI.

MS/HS Plan

The purpose of this plan is to identify hazardous areas in our community and to receive the necessary compensation from the state for providing transportation of these students to our schools.
